Feast of St Dominic

Feast of St Dominic

August 8!  I love the saints and their stories!  Today is the feast of St Dominic, the founder of the Order of the Preachers, otherwise known as the Dominicans.  Some of the greatest theologians, including St Thomas Aquinas, were members of this order.

One of my other favorite saints, Catherine of Siena was profoundly influenced by the Dominicans and in her hometown of Siena, there is a lovely church called, St Dominic's where there is the crypt of St Dominic. (And her severed head!!)

This is a small statue of St Dominic next to the crypt and above the door, St Dominic is shown with St Catherine.  Really a beautiful place!

I loved this church and am grateful for all the wonderful preachers that have emerged from this order!

This is a picture of the sign at the crypt of St Dominic's in Siena.  Hard to get the perspective but it was a really interesting thing to see.

The beauty of having made the challenge of 30 days of blogging is that I can change my mind and after writing each day last week, I realized that I am now going to take this a day at a time.  If something hits me and I feel called to post a blog, I will but in the mean time, it has reminded me how much energy goes into creating something for all to read.  I love it and with unlimited time, I would keep it going but alas, the next few weeks are filled with activities to prepare for the beginning of my  chaplain residency.

Thanks for following me this last week and you will see more...as time allows!

Blissfully, Susan
